The Marina de Portimao is embedded in the Blue Flag programme since 2000. This program aims to improve the environmental performance of the company as well as reducing the impact on the environment caused by its activities.
As part of this Program, management programmes have been developed which aim to improve the environmental quality of the Marina, by implementing projects in the following areas:
Water
The following are the main projects for improving the quality of water in the Marina:
- acquiring absorbent material for dealing with accidental spillages of fuel or other dangerous substances in the water;
- encouraging people to use biodegradable products for washing boats;
- acquiring a pump-out system that allows wastewater produced in boats to be collected and sent for treatment;
Waste Management
In the different activities that take place in the Marina, especially in the boatyard area, dangerous waste materials are produced.
The Portimão Marina provides proper containers for disposing of all types of waste material, which is sent to an appropriate final destination, as far as possible giving preference to recycling rather than disposal.
In order to improve the conditions for collecting and storing waste, an Area for the Temporary Storage of Waste has been created, fixed recycling points have been placed to facilitate the correct disposal of waste that is produced.
Non-hazardous waste produced in different areas of activity are also collected separately and sent for recycling.
Water consumption
As most of the consumption of water in the Marina is the responsibility of clients, awareness-raising campaigns on the importance of saving water have been held.
Consumption of Electricity
To reduce the consumption of electricity, awareness-raising campaigns on the importance of saving electricity have been held.
